I volunteer with Gayle Loyola of YACD (Youth Adult Community Development). Gayle and I are both former foster children. Gayle’s passion is for youth aging out of care, and finding ways to help them access jobs, education and most of all a place to live.

Foster alumni are not the focus of Habitat for Humanity, HUD and other organizations.

But foster youth who age out of care and are expected to immediately adjust to adulthood are at high risk for homelessness after their ‘emancipation.’

Low wages certainly don’t help.

Another thing that doesn’t help is that there are no national organizations currently committed to helping them.
