Rupert Murdoch spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davros, Switzerland:
Asked if his News Corp. managed to shape the agenda on the war in Iraq, Murdoch said: “No, I don’t think so. We tried.” Asked by Rose for further comment, he said: “We basically supported the Bush policy in the Middle East…but we have been very critical of his execution.”
I never want to hear anyone claim that Fox News is “fair and balanced” ever again.
Addendum: There is one piece of good news here. The fact that Murdoch said “we tried” implies that Fox News failed. That means that the network is nowhere near as effective as the conservatives would like it to be. This result shows that the American people can see through propaganda, and it bodes well for the future of reasonable public discourse on the issues of the day.
