Businesses, organizations and individuals can now purchase carbon “offsets” in an effort to negate the amount of carbon dioxide they pour into the atmosphere. For example, say an airline produces ten tons of carbon dioxide per year. The company can pay for enough trees to be planted that will consume that amount of carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. But, do “offsets” really work? The jury is out. See here.
