I’ve been away for a while, so here are a few brief thoughts.
Stephanie Coontz sees the solution to the same-sex marriage debate: Get the government out of the marriage process entirely. Make it a private affair, and people and institutions can do (or not do) whatever they wish.
Paul Krugman looks at the pessimistic attitude that Americans have on the economy. The reasons are simple: A falling dollar, increasing inflation, a pending economic slowdown, increasing public and private debt, a country that is nearly bankrupt, real wages that do not keep up with increasing productivity, and a low unemployment rate that is simply a result of increased underemployment (low-paying jobs that provide few benefits). Did I miss anything?
An Israeli-Palestinian peace conference is scheduled to begin this week. The solutions are simple. See here and here.
