A Step Backward for Feminism

Hillary Clinton spouts the tired, politically-correct rhetoric:

Hillary Clinton praised the historic nature of John McCain’s vice presidential selection in a brief statement released Friday that was eagerly anticipated by both presidential campaigns.

We should all be proud of Governor Sarah Palin’s historic nomination, and I congratulate her and Senator McCain,” Clinton, the first woman to win a presidential primary, said in the statement. “While their policies would take America in the wrong direction, Governor Palin will add an important new voice to the debate.”

Clinton knows she is wrong, but of course she could never say so in a politically-correct climate. John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential candidate simply because she is a woman. She has no experience in the federal government. She has little experience in government at all. Any number of conservative Christians would have solidified McCain’s support among the Religious Right. Alaska has always been a Red State. McCain merely wants to attract Clinton’s disappointed supporters.

To choose a candidate simply because she is a woman is just as sexist as not choosing a candidate simply because she is a woman. The choice of Palin is a step backwards for feminism.
