Talking ‘Bout My…

The news just keeps getting, um, better…

A few years ago, employers wooed college graduates and young workers with bonuses, perks and recruiting trips to ski resorts. But these days, more people in their 20s are losing jobs and getting by on unemployment benefits and help from family.

With jobs scarce and the unemployment rate climbing, young workers are competing with older ones willing to take pay cuts. And some employers are keeping experienced workers who have more training and skills while avoiding large severance payments.

People in their twenties and younger are the future of the United States, but no one seems to be thinking of them. We are saddled with tens of thousands of dollars of debt from college and graduate school. The Baby Boomers are too scared to retire under the current economic circumstances, so the natural turnover of jobs from them to the younger generation is not happening. Younger Americans are not getting the training and experience they need to move up the corporate ladder. They are not finding enough quality jobs that will allow them to afford marriage and a family. Yes, they are pretty upset.
