Not long ago, it was the reactionary right-wingers that were the ones promulgating consipiracy theories. Now, it seems it’s the looney left.
What’s interesting is the underlying, almost certainly unconscious ideologies at play: rightist conspirators believe that the government (or the secret controllers thereof) wields enormous power and must be checked. Leftists believe that the secret controllers of the government are corporatists and capitalists who must be checked.
Both, in the end, give the government far too much credit for effectiveness, imho.

Yup. Anyone who has worked in government — or even, in my case, something resembling a government like the Model U.N. in high school — knows that it is far –too-bureaucratic and inefficient to wield such power. Sam Scott(Quote)
Man, do I hate how slow your blog loads. I’m already halfway through a post by the time your ad pops up, deleting everything I’ve written. Just thought you should know.
Anyway, I remember Model UN! I thought it was great. HOWEVER, I remember at least 50% of the time was spent on procedural matters, rather than substantive issues. Like, remembering the right parliamentary procedure, moderator involvement, etc. By the time we got around to actually discussing issues, the sessions were half over. And from what (admittedly very, very little) I’ve seen of “real” government, most of that is spent on speaking to the media, filibustering, and not being in session, rather than sitting down in committees and hammering out practical solutions. Grrr.
Although I blame the Illuminati for all of this. Dan(Quote)
Dan, I just changed some things. Let me know if it’s any faster… Sam Scott(Quote)
So far, it seems to be. I’ll keep you updated on how the connection fares here in the States. Dan(Quote)
